Interstices 18”x15”x18” 2019
The basketry coiling technique enables me to create sensual, sinewy and rhythmic sculptures out of thin air. The pieces appear to move and pulse in a continuous spiral seeming to have no beginning or end. The soft texture of each sculpture and the strength of its construction are united by the tightly wrapped natural linen warp thread, which adds a serenity to each piece.
My fiber sculptures are in the round. Each piece is tightly constructed and will retain its form. The materials I utilize to create each piece will last. The pieces can be handled gently and many can have viewing positions changed by turning it or hanging it. All of the sculptures are created with the coiled basketry technique and wrapping using braided poly cord, unbleached linen warp, a needle and scissors.
